If Planetshakers is a hedonistic mammon house like Brian Houston’s Hillsong empire, then the following critique may be helpful.

Hillsong church claims to represent Christianity.
Any Christian who decides that any of their practices or teachings contradict the Bible is OBLIGATED to state an objection, as otherwise they are being negligent to the Biblical command to be a WITNESS OF THE TRUTH.

Any displeased non Christian can also raise objections, but they should use the Bible as the basis of their complaint, as Hillsong may ignore criticism from “unbelievers”.
The Bible is the authority of Christianity, not church leaders. The Bible should be used to support critique of frauds.
The Bible can be searched online eg. http://www.biblegateway.com

Hillsong can easily be challenged by verses from search words like money, riches, greed, covet, immorality, etc.

There is also a good repository of authentic documentation concerning the truth behind the facades of Hillsong at http://www.christian-witness.org (use their search facility with words “Hillsong” and “Brian Houston”).

Obviously, criticising church systems interferes with unity, but unity is worthless unless it is with truth.

The Bible encourages discernment against falsehood, as otherwise Christians would be forced to unify with corruption when it infiltrated the church.

1 Thes 5:21-22 Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil.

            Here is my critique –

At Hillsong, salvation is indirectly offered for sale through participation in a church business system supervised by business managers called pastors.

Brian Houston is following and promoting a FALSE CHRIST of hedonism (worldly indulgence).

Good things in extreme, or in the wrong situation, become evil.

1 Tim 6:10 NIV “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”

Brian Houston runs a gigantic church business system using a marketing ploy that appears as “Come to church, we’ve got party music, attractive girls, and money everywhere”.

Hebrews 13:5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
1 Thes 4:3-5 It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God

In contrast, Brian Houston wrote a book “You need more money” and his wife Bobby “Kingdom women love sex”.

This is the seduction and worship of a false Christ who might be named “Mammon Jesus”.

Jesus Christ warned about false Christs (eg. Matt 24:24), so they can be named appropriately when they turn up.

Any unbiblical teaching about who Jesus Christ is, or what he wants us to do, creates a false Christ for people to follow.

Hillsong is built on the same premise as the Roman Catholic church institution, and others like it, that contradict the Bible:

The authority of men instead of the authority of the Bible.

The fear of men, instead of the fear of the Lord.

Prov 29:25 Fear of man will prove to be a SNARE, but whoever trusts in the LORD is KEPT SAFE.

Prov 14:26-27 He who fears the LORD has a secure fortress, and for his children it will be a refuge. The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, turning a man from the snares of death.

Where does the Hillsong money come from?

In this foul institution, faith blessing is PURCHASED WITH MONEY – no coins, only “the folding”, and credit cards.

This is a contradiction of the Bible and a manipulation of people, with potential for tremendous social harm.

In addition to the “faith money” there is all the merchandise – clothing, CD’s, DVD’s, books, seminars, etc. as well as income from all entities that Hillsong controls.
These are all tax free where they are registered under “not for profit” status.
It would also be worth knowing if they are siphoning off any government funds via social projects they create through their church entities.

The large Hillsong churches may be nothing more than entertainment factories that promote materialism to distract Christians from what they should be doing.

Luke 4:5-7 shows the Devil offering Jesus Christ worldly kingdoms in exchange for worship: “The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor, for it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. So if you worship me, it will all be yours.”

Hillsong must be partnering with the Devil through their love of money and the building of worldly kingdoms.

Jesus Christ kicked the money enterprises out of the temple “Take these things away! Do not make My Father’s house a house of merchandise!” (John 2:16 NKJV)

Matthew 6:24 NIV “No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.”

Christians should discern and reject fraudulent church ministries:

2 Cor 11:13-15 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.

Their end will be what their actions deserve!

1 Tim 6:11 But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.

Saturday, September 13, 2008 Saturday Musings

I’ve been looking over the stats. By far, the post that has drawn the most attention on this blog is the one about Sonseed, and their campy 80’s ska worship song, “Jesus is a Friend of Mine.” Not only does that post have the most hits here, but it’s burning up my Youtube channel. There are videos I’ve had there for months (exclusive content!) that have thirty, forty views. I put that vid up and it’s at 1800 in a week, and it must be on a million channels on Youtube. Crazy.

The next most popular posts are all about Michael Guglielmucci. Well, I guess that was big news in my circles. Some news outlets in Australia are reporting that Hillsong is recalling the This is Our God DVD to replace it with a version that does not feature Guglielmucci talking about his cancer. No word on whether or not they plan on pulling the CD and removing Healer. I hope not.

Sunday, August 31, 2008 Setlist Sunday – Aug 31

What a great service! I don’t know what it was, but we had ourselves one mighty fine time at worship this morning. To be honest, the setlist didn’t thrill me when I got it, but wow, did it flow and get people moving.

Open the Eyes of my Heart (Baloche) -welcome song.
Eres Todopoderoso (Salinas)
I’m Yours (Buchanan/Johnson)
Your Grace is Enough (Maher)
Draw Me Close to You (Carpenter)
Healer (Guglielmucci)

(Greed’s emphasis)
We don’t usually start out this high energy, but somehow it worked out that way today. Elyano, our main drummer, hasn’t been playing a lot this summer, and I think he had a lot of pent up energy! He was hitting rolls and fills I haven’t heard him hit in a long time. For those who don’t know Eres Todopoderoso, it a great high-energy Spanish praise song, popularized by Danilo Montero.

We haven’t done I’m Yours in months. Certainly not since I got my Bad Monkey! That’s one of those songs people either get or they don’t. Everyone seemed to get it today. Nothing wrong with a little head-banging, as long as everyone is getting into it, right? Our version of Your Grace is Enough is also pretty high-energy, so by the time we got through those three songs, everyone was jumping and clapping and really getting into worship.

Sometimes that’s the best time to take it down a notch and channel that energy into some real worship time, and that’s just what we did. Draw Me Close to You is such a great song. We continued the theme of reliance on God with Healer. We’d done this for the first time at our revivals last week, but this was the first time for a Sunday service. Seemed to fit in perfectly. The two choruses – “You’re all I want… you’re all I ever needed…” into “I believe that you’re my Healer… I believe that you are all I need…” I love it when a plan comes together.

Check out what other churches are doing at Fred’s Setlist Carnival.

Fred McKinnon asked the question yesterday: Where are we, one week later?

Yesterday I posted that Michael Guglielmucci had given an interview to Australian news magazine todaytonight regarding his startling revelation that he was lying about his terminal cancer, that he had never been sick. This revelation put quite a tarnish on the wonderful song Healer, which was released by Planetshakers in 2007, and Hillsong this month.

..
So, where are we in all this? I was pleased to see in the Setlist Sunday that this blog participates in that there are people still doing Healer in worship services. In fact, we did it at Sunday night’s revival meeting. There is no reason not to. After all, David was a fallen man, a murderer and an adulterer. We still sing psalms, as I recall, and no one is suggesting we don’t. John Newton was a slave master, and a servant of a slave trader before his conversion, but no one is pulling Amazing Grace out of hymnals. Beethoven was possibly an atheist, and reportedly never set foot in a church as an adult, yet his liturgical music is still being played in churches around the world a hundred and eighty years after his death.

I daresay that none of us with the temerity to get up on an altar, stage or pulpit every Sunday is without flaw. Some of us write songs, others sermons, others books, some all three. Perhaps we are not the notorious sinner that Michael is now, but that notoriety will fade over time. As Fred (correctly) points out, none of us deserve anything other than hell and damnation. When I look at the news stories, I might say “There, but for the Grace of God, go I.”

Wednesday, August 27, 2008 Michael Guglielmucci Speaks Out

“Healer” composer Michael Guglielmucci has done a public interview on Austrailian television. I won’t comment just yet. You can see what he has to say for yourself.

Here is the link in case embedding gets disabled.

The Perfect Wife? .. see/hear/speak no evil Amanda Gugli Mucho

??? Michael or Amanda ???

??? Who is the greater liar ???

We are deeply impressed too, as is Hillsong Investigatrix Tanya Levin, at the Mafia-treatment of ever-dying Mike Guglielmucci.

The AOG executive needs an Academy Award over this one!! One would think the Firm, as Tanya calls the conspirators, planned years ago for the shock revelations, crisis PR & outpourings of pseudo-forgiveness. Indeed the sight of AOG & Hillsong CEO Brian Houston casually reacting to the ‘death’ of superstar says a great deal.

In this prime-time TV serial, Amanda plays long suffering wife Amanda. Seven years of wedded bliss.

Long-suffering wife, along with powerful AOGer father-in-law Danny Guglielmucci, is left distraught at the unravelling of the dream run enjoyed by Michael. Michael’s character is overweight (a la fallen superstar Todd ‘Bam Bam’ Bentley), has musical ability, and is highly capable of getting his audience to cry and/or open their purses/wallets.

Amanda is the purr-fect wife. There is so much leuve between Michael & Amanda. In fact, when our beloved songster Michael is told (via e-mail) that he has contracted Cancer from drinking Adelaide water, our purr-fect wife doesn’t even think of going to doctors and specialists with hubby. They have a special relationship – a pre-nuptual bond blessed by the A.O.G. Exec.

Is Amanda just another AOG blonde?bWill Michael return triumphantly to the stage? Will the hypnotised rabble refuse to accept they might be wrong? Is the marriage finished? Why didn’t Amanda move back to Adelaide to support hubby in his publicised counselling sessions instead of staying with HILLSONG in Sydney? What will the Gugli Muchis do with their media payments? Will the series end ? . . . . .

Says Tanya, ” She’s very smart. The Firm doesn’t approve of resistance.

Keep on playing the purr-fect wife, Amanda. What’s that about a 7 year itch? May the Firm be with you….

AWESOME HAILSONG SONG CONTEST

The HAILSONG SONG FACTORY, in collusion with Planetsnakers, is looking for the next Mikey Guglielmucci (now on sick leave).

We are having a SONG CONTEST!!! FUN!! FUN!! FUN! As AOG youth leaders – trust ’em! – always say,It’ll be awesome.”

Right. We need alternatives to the words to HEALER (now disfellowshipped). We need any creative input into the fiasco.

We need to show that we have even more imagination than Pastor Michael Gugli Mucho.

This is your chance to outshine Australian Idol/Paradise AOG-crooner Guy Sebastian. OK, that mightn’t be hard! You can be HAILSONG’S next Youth guru. But let’s recall those Lyrics blasting the AOG universe and see Conman Mike at his best.
